The year 2021 marks the Centenary of Village Halls Services in the UK: many village halls having
been established in the 1920s. The present Village Hall in Bubbenhall was built in 1986 but prior
to that village residents made active use of the Reading Room that was established during the
reign of Queen Victoria in 1876. So a village hall facility has a history here spanning almost
150 years. That history and the many fascinating characters who played a part in it has recently
been documented in a book by local resident Alan Roe (see right). It is entitled From Reading Room to Village
Hall: Windows on Bubbenhall History and is being sold in a limited edition to raise fund for Cancer
Research.

The Management Committee of the Village Hall plans to make an entry in the national Village Halls Domesday Book 2021 that is being prepared to mark the Centenary.
